Retiring an Asset from the Assets Data Page

Note: To retire an asset, the role of the logged-in user must include the Assets feature and the Retire feature.

An asset may be retired from the Assets Data page. Once retired, the asset is deleted from inventory and no asset management functions (i.e., check out, check in, reservation) may be performed on the asset. If a user retires an asset that is checked out, the asset is removed from check out status upon being retired. If a user retires an asset that is reserved, the asset is removed from reserved status upon being retired. Retired assets are not automatically listed at the Assets Data page, but you may opt to view them by marking the Show Retired Assets checkbox in the bottom right area of the Assets Data page grid. A retired asset may be reactivated and put back into active use by un-retiring it.

To retire an asset, refer to the steps that follow.

  1. Open the Assets Data page by selecting Assets > Assets Data from the navigation pane.
  2. The Assets Data page appears. The assets are listed in the page's grid.
  3. To retire an asset, locate the asset at the Assets Data page and select the Retire icon Retire iconto the right of the asset.
  4. A dialog appears asking: Retire Asset?

Retire Asset prompt

  1. To close the dialog, retire the asset, and return to the Assets Data page, click OK. A Retire transaction is recorded in application history. The asset is retired and will not appear in the list of assets. After the asset is retired, it is no longer found in asset inventory and no asset functions may be performed on it. If the asset was contained in asset inventory, the asset is removed from asset inventory once it is retired. If upon being retired, the asset is checked out to an assignee, the asset will be removed from the check out list. If upon being retired, the asset is reserved to an assignee, the asset will be removed from the list of reserved assets for this assignee.
  2. To cancel this action, close the dialog, and return to the Assets form, click Cancel. The asset is not retired.

Viewing Retired Assets

A retired asset is only displayed when the Show Retired Assets checkbox is marked.

Reactivating a Retired Asset

A retired asset may be placed back into active use by "unretiring" it; see "Reactivating a Retired Asset from the Assets Data Page" for more information.
